My final design project was 4 separate towers generated from 3D Voronoi.
I went through many different design phases to get to this idea, also cutting down the number of towers from 6 to 4 because it looked too full. I wanted to have a fair bit of open space between each tower, but also to have some towers touching others.
Banner
For my design I chose to design a mixture of Organic
Architecture and Responsive Architecture. I originally started off modelling a
structure with curved surfaces trying to make it Organic, but in the end I used
the Voronoi tool to get randomly shaped geometry which I used to create my
building.
The responsive Façade I had in mind was one that would
follow the sun, allowing as much natural light as possible into the building.
I went through many different designs to get to my final
design choice. I went through making helixes and a range of other geometrical
shapes before I made more changes to my design proposal.
The site I chose for my building was the corner of
Castlereagh Street and King Street, This area is created by the junction of
Pitt Street Mall, Sydney Tower, Castlereagh Street and King Street. My proposal
for the building on this site is a variety of open area shops that are topped
by apartment buildings.
Each apartment building is designed to get maximum visibility
of the surrounding city, because each floor is a different apartment.
Final Design
This is the final design I have. From one of the previous designs I got rid of the exterior and used 3D Voronoi to create Geometry, followed by List Item which I went through to choose the geometry I wanted.
Responsive Facade
This is the responsive facade I wanted to use. The Idea was that some of the faces in my design would have this. This facade was to be responsive to the sun, following the sun to allow as much light as possible into the building.
